The automaker has been actively developing a vehicle fitting this description, speculated to bear the name GV90 upon production. The Neolun concept could provide a glimpse into Genesis' future direction. Prototypes have already been observed, hinting at a potential market launch anticipated as early as next year.
The term "Neolun" combines the Greek "neo" and the Latin "luna," translating to "new moon," symbolizing Genesis' commitment to technological advancement in upcoming vehicle models.
The concept showcases minimalist design with sleek surfaces accentuated by illuminated light bars serving as both headlights and taillights, along with subtle character lines. Genesis' Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, describes this approach as "reductive design," intentionally removing extraneous elements. Features like roof racks and side steps are seamlessly integrated within the body, extending outward only when needed.
The design takes a bold step by eliminating the B-pillars, providing access to the cabin through coach-style doors reminiscent of luxury vehicles like Rolls-Royce and the former Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition. Opening these doors on the Neolun concept reveals a spacious entryway leading to four individual seats.
While the interior design of the concept leans towards the extravagant, certain elements may find their way into future Genesis models. These include the potential replacement of the digital gauge cluster with a head-up display and the integration of a small screen on the steering wheel. The vehicle introduces a radiant heating system utilizing surfaces like the dash, floors, and door linings to warm the cabin, eschewing traditional methods of blowing warm air. Premium materials such as cashmere, soft leather, and genuine wood trim enhance the cabin's luxurious feel.
Though the concept showcases a four-seat configuration across two rows, production models may opt for the standard three-row setup. Notably, Genesis has expressed the possibility of implementing the coach doors into production, stating that the design has reached a point where production is feasible.
As the New York Auto Show prepares to welcome media attendees on Wednesday, Genesis plans to introduce a performance sub-brand named Magma during the event. The automaker aims to offer a Magma variant for each vehicle in its lineup, potentially including the full-size SUV.
