Located in Royal Leamington Spa, just outside Birmingham, the facility represents a major step forward for GM's international design strategy. With the Corvette now being sold across Europe, the timing couldn’t be better. This new UK studio is GM’s latest investment in future-forward design, and the team has kicked things off with a bold new take on one of America’s most legendary nameplates.

A Corvette Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Forget everything you thought you knew about the Chevrolet Corvette. This new concept trades brute force and muscle-bound aggression for sleek sophistication and aerodynamic innovation. It’s still instantly recognizable as a Corvette—with a low-slung, mid-engine silhouette and subtle nods to the past—but it’s clearly aimed at the future.

One of the standout features is the unique split rear windshield, a design cue that pays homage to classic Corvettes of the 1960s. But from there, things get futuristic fast. The smooth, sculpted body is divided into a crisp white upper section and a contrasting black lower portion, with massive aerodynamic intakes designed to channel air efficiently beneath the car—no oversized rear wings needed here.

GM has hinted that the concept is all-electric, with a structural battery pack integrated into the chassis. The entire body is created using additive manufacturing (aka 3D printing), giving designers complete freedom to experiment with complex shapes and lightweight construction techniques. The new UK studio is headed by none other than Julian Thomson, a legendary name in automotive design. Thomson is best known for shaping the original Lotus Elise and Land Rover’s game-changing LRX concept, which ultimately led to the Range Rover Evoque. He also ran Jaguar’s advanced design operations until 2021.

The 24,584-square-foot facility will house more than 30 designers, all working on next-generation vehicle concepts that look five to ten years into the future. And judging by this debut Corvette concept, they’re off to an electrifying start.
