Hyundai has done it again, throwing convention out the window and diving headfirst into the world of radical concept cars. Meet the Hyundai Insteroid, a jaw-dropping, one-off EV that takes the humble Inster and dials everything up to the extreme. Inspired by motorsport but with a heavy dose of digital-age flair, this wild creation looks like it belongs in a futuristic racing sim rather than real-world streets.
A Widebody Stance and an Over-the-Top Rear Wing
One look at the Insteroid, and it's clear Hyundai wasn’t aiming for subtlety. The most eye-catching feature? A towering two-panel rear wing that could double as a small aircraft’s stabilizer. But the insanity doesn’t stop there. The original Inster EV has been stretched out with an aggressive wide arch body kit that seamlessly extends from front to back, giving it a proper race-ready stance.
Track-Ready Features with a Digital Twist
Hyundai didn't hold back when it came to details. The Insteroid rides on massive 21-inch wheels with a unique three-sphere design, adding to its futuristic appeal. A roof scoop channels air down into what we can only assume is a non-existent high-performance cooling system, while the oversized rear diffuser hints at track aspirations. Up front, the flared wheel arches feature additional vents, and we wouldn’t be surprised if more aerodynamic tweaks are hiding in the shadows.
Stripped-Down Interior with a Playful Edge
Inside, Hyundai has replaced the rear seats with a roll cage, an unusual sight for a small city EV. But before you start thinking this is a serious race car, Hyundai has made it clear that the Insteroid is all about fun. The cabin will feature playful and unexpected elements, though whether that includes a storage bin for virtual loot remains a mystery.
While this outlandish concept isn’t destined for production, it showcases Hyundai’s ability to push boundaries and experiment with bold designs. Could some of these features make their way into future performance-oriented EVs? Only time will tell. One thing’s for sure: the Insteroid proves that electric cars don’t have to be dull.
