Cadillac envisions the Sollei as a colossal 2+2 convertible EV, appealing to the unique passions and interests of its discerning clientele.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre has already shown the potential of this format, albeit with a fixed roof and a price starting well over £300k. The Sollei, being a concept, lacks extensive technical details, but speculation suggests it shares much with the Celestiq. Both vehicles appear to share the same platform and a 600hp powertrain, with identical structures forward of the A-pillar.
Beyond the A-pillar, the Sollei diverges significantly. It boasts doors over five feet long, operated by buttons on an aluminum ring encircling the cabin instead of conventional handles. The interior is a showcase of sophisticated design, featuring a 55-inch, dash-spanning display, a fully integrated beverage chiller with a power glass door, crystal glasses, acres of open-pore timber, and genuine metal finishes. One particularly unique touch is a leather-wrapped case housing 3D-printed acrylic bird calls and a leather-bound journal for recording bird sightings.
“Sollei reimagines the discovery of travel, envisioning a personalized driving experience that connects one with the natural world around them,” said Erin Crossley, design director at Cadillac. While some elements might seem like concept car embellishments, much of the Sollei appears ready for hand-built, low-volume production. Cadillac has even brought back a special yellow paint, Manila Cream, last used in the 1950s, for this project.
While the Sollei's progressive and daring appearance, including its 23-inch aluminum wheels, is clear, it also draws inspiration from classic Cadillacs, likely including the iconic Eldorado. The unveiling at Cadillac's newly restored, state-of-the-art Cadillac House facility signals the manufacturer's high hopes for this concept, aiming for more than just curious glances from those interested in the Celestiq.
In essence, the Sollei embodies Cadillac's vision of personalized, luxurious electric travel, blending cutting-edge design with nostalgic elements. It’s a testament to Cadillac’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in the ultra-luxury automotive sector.
