The legendary Jaguar grand tourer, crafted from 1975 to 1996, was a staple in the original TWR's touring car championship races. Thus, it stands as the perfect base for the inaugural project of the revived TWR.
TWR is keeping the majority of specifications under wraps until the dynamic unveiling of the car later this summer. However, it's been disclosed that a potent supercharged V-12 engine, generating over 600 horsepower, powers the front wheels. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, this setup promises an exhilarating driving experience.
Crafted entirely from lightweight carbon fiber, the body boasts a distinctive wide-body design. Noteworthy are the side-mounted exhaust tips, facilitating the integration of a substantial rear diffuser spanning the width of the body. While the interior remains unseen, it has undergone a comprehensive overhaul, promising a revamped driving environment.
Under the leadership of Fergus Walkinshaw, son of renowned businessman and motorsport figure Tom Walkinshaw, the new TWR brings together a team of engineers with backgrounds from esteemed brands such as Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, and various Formula 1 teams. Their mission: to craft a line of bespoke vehicles blending modern materials with the timeless appeal of analog driving. Their debut offering, the Supercat, sets the stage for this vision.
In a bid to infuse distinct character into the Supercat, TWR collaborated with automotive artisans Magnus Walker and Khyzyl Saleem. Walker, celebrated for his passion for classic car restoration and modification, particularly within Porsche circles, brings his unique touch to the project. Saleem, known online as Kyza, is a rising star renowned for his avant-garde 3D car designs. His brand, LTO, showcases a line of daring body kits.
Available for order now, the Supercat is priced starting at £225,000 (approximately $282,000). Limited to just 88 units, a homage to TWR's inaugural triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1988 with the Jaguar XJR-9, deliveries are slated to commence later this year.
