Lanzante has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive engineering with the introduction of the TAG Championship.

Lanzante s 625hp tag championship debuts at goodwood 2 1

This new model, boasting a staggering 625hp and a redline of 10,250rpm, is a further enhancement over their already impressive TAG Turbo by Lanzante.

Six years ago, Lanzante made waves with the announcement of 911 Turbos powered by Formula 1 engines, and now they’ve taken it a step further. Only three TAG Championships will be produced, a number symbolizing the three drivers' championships won with TAG-engined cars in 1984, 1985, and 1986. This new version is a stripped-down, high-performance marvel, weighing in at just 920kg without fuel or driver—significantly lighter than the original TAG Turbo’s 1,100kg.

The weight reduction is achieved through various modifications, including the removal of electric windows, a lighter climate control system, carbon-backed seats, and Dymag magnesium-carbon wheels. Even the wiring loom has been redesigned for weight savings. Aluminium doors have been replaced with carbon fiber, which is also used for the wings and bumpers. Lanzante claims the Championship car is over 400kg lighter than the donor car.

The engine, a TA TTE P01 1.5-litre twin-turbo V6, has been refined by Cosworth. It features new pistons, conrods, valve cams, and turbos, resulting in an increase to 625hp and a higher redline. The adapted six-speed manual transmission from a 993-era 911 promises a top speed of around 200mph.

The first TAG Championship car will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This model, known as Championship ‘85, features an engine used during the 1984, 1985, and 1986 F1 seasons. It will sport a livery inspired by Alain Prost’s 1985 helmet, echoing the look of the MP4/2B GP car. The interior will have a suede steering wheel with white stitching, mirroring the F1 racers of that era.

The Lanzante stand at Goodwood is set to be a highlight, featuring not only the TAG Championship but also the McLaren drift car. While it's unclear if the Championship will be ready to roll by July, it is sure to be a showstopper. Enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next two models.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
