After shutting its doors in 1955, the brand has been reestablished, with its first project paying homage to the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.
The Legacy of Saoutchik
Jacques Saoutchik, born Iakov Savtchuk, founded Saoutchik to deliver extraordinary, custom-built automotive bodies. The company thrived until 1955, just three years after Jacques' son Pierre Saoutchik took the helm. Known for creating some of the most opulent and luxurious vehicles of the era, Saoutchik's designs were highly sought after by automotive collectors.
In 2016, the Saoutchik name was revived in the Netherlands, where the modern iteration of the company specializes in automotive design, engineering, and even industrial design. Today, Saoutchik offers complete builds from concept sketches to limited-series production, bringing a new level of bespoke luxury to modern cars.
Introducing the Saoutchik 300 GTC: A Modern Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Homage
Saoutchik's first project in the modern era is a reimagined take on the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, named the 300 GTC. This exclusive vehicle draws inspiration from the original 300 SL while incorporating cutting-edge design and technology. The "GT" in the name is a nod to the car's chassis, sourced from the previous-generation Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Roadster, blending classic aesthetics with modern performance.
The interior layout of the 300 GTC mirrors that of the AMG GT, offering a luxurious and high-performance driving experience that bridges the past and present.
Designed by Ugur Sahin
The exterior design of the 300 GTC is the brainchild of Ugur Sahin Design, a studio known for its stunning homage to the Ferrari F50. Sahin has infused the 300 GTC with many of the 300 SL’s iconic lines while adding sleek, modern touches that make this car a true masterpiece of design.
Crafted entirely from carbon fiber, Germany’s Pogea Racing supplies the body panels, and the intricate build process takes around 4,000 hours to complete.
Performance and Production Details
While Saoutchik has yet to release detailed mechanical specifications, it is presumed that the 300 GTC will feature the AMG GT’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, paired with a rear-mounted 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powerhouse combination is likely to deliver the high-performance credentials Mercedes-Benz fans expect.
Saoutchik plans to limit production to just 15 units, making the 300 GTC an ultra-rare collector’s piece. While the official price tag has yet to be revealed, its exclusivity and craftsmanship suggest that it will command a premium.
The revival of Saoutchik marks a new chapter in luxury automotive design, blending a rich heritage with contemporary technology. The 300 GTC pays tribute to the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, offering collectors and enthusiasts a modern classic that stands at the crossroads of history and innovation. With only 15 units set for production, this stunning homage is sure to be a highly coveted masterpiece in the world of bespoke luxury cars.
