But Hannason’s build takes things even further, blending original 400R design cues with extensive mechanical upgrades to deliver a stunning 800bhp beast. Much like Techart's GTstreet R Monochrome redefines the Porsche 911, this R33 GT-R N1 embodies a perfect fusion of performance and bespoke design.
A Rare Foundation with 400R Flair
The R33 N1 chassis serves as the base for this creation, staying true to its roots with a factory-finished QM1 White exterior. However, Hannason’s team incorporated authentic 400R components, including the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, diffuser, vented bonnet, and carbon-tipped rear wing. Even the Rays Nismo LM1 GT1 five-spoke alloys accented with blue detailing are period-correct.
Inside, the car boasts original 400R seats, a matching steering wheel, and even painstakingly sourced 400R floor mats. Completing the retro vibe is a five-speed manual shifter, perfectly placed amidst this homage to GT-R history.
Under the Hood: 800bhp of Precision Engineering
Mechanically, this GT-R is anything but ordinary. The RB26 engine retains its original N1 block but features forged internals and aftermarket upgrades from renowned brands like HKS and PRP. Highlights include reinforced turbos, a larger intercooler, and titanium valves, all contributing to an output of nearly 800bhp.
While performance figures haven’t been shared, the upgrades suggest dramatic improvements over the standard R33 GT-R’s 5.4-second 0-62mph time and 156mph top speed. Considering the R33 was the first production car to lap the Nürburgring in under eight minutes, this build could rival even the modern R35’s lap times.
With meticulous upgrades to its RB26 engine, this GT-R mirrors the approach seen in the Vigilante 4x4 Jeep Cherokee, transforming it into a high-performance masterpiece.
Paying Homage to a Misunderstood Legend
Hannason describes the N1 as “a little misunderstood,” explaining its exclusivity as a homologation model built for racing teams and Nissan executives. “The 400R, on the other hand, while rare, isn’t as unique. Nismo took base R33 GT-R models off the production line and turned them into 400Rs,” he says.
This build reimagines what the 400R could have been, blending the exclusivity of the N1 with the iconic styling of Nismo’s masterpiece. It’s a car that pays tribute to the GT-R legacy while elevating it to a whole new level.
