This move positions Genesis in the competitive world of endurance racing, with the brand set to participate in the GTP and Hypercar classes of the IMSA SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Genesis Eyes Le Mans Glory
Although specific details about the timing and series of Genesis’ entry are yet to be revealed, LMDh cars are also eligible for the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. This opens up the possibility for Genesis to vie for an outright win at one of the most iconic races in motorsport. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the crown jewel of the WEC calendar, and Genesis’ participation would mark a significant milestone for the brand.
Paving the Way for Future Technology
According to Genesis, the LMDh program is about more than just racing; it will serve as a testbed for developing future technology for road cars. With this venture, Genesis aims to strengthen its image as a performance-oriented brand, a key focus as they prepare to roll out new models under their Magma performance sub-brand.
“Genesis is proud to announce its ambitious entry into the world of endurance racing through the LMDh program,” the company stated. “After evaluating several options, LMDh emerged as the most strategic choice for strengthening our high-performance image.”
LMDh Racing: The Next Frontier
LMDh (Le Mans Daytona h) regulations allow manufacturers significant freedom in developing powertrains, although the cars must not exceed 670 horsepower. In an effort to control costs, LMDh teams are required to use donor chassis from one of four approved suppliers: Oreca, Dallara, Ligier, or Multimatic.
Most LMDh entries use a hybrid setup, combining a gasoline engine with a motor-generator, similar to the configuration featured in the Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo concept. This innovative technology could eventually find its way into Magma models, further enhancing Genesis’ performance lineup.
Hyundai Motorsport Takes the Lead
Genesis’ LMDh program will be managed by Hyundai Motorsport, the same division responsible for Hyundai N’s successful rally and touring car efforts. Hyundai Motorsport has previously secured Manufacturers' titles in the 2019 and 2020 World Rally Championship seasons, as well as several TCR series titles.
With a proven track record and a clear vision for the future, Genesis’ entry into LMDh racing represents a bold step toward positioning the brand as a leader in both motorsports and high-performance road cars.
Genesis’ entry into LMDh racing is a strategic move that not only boosts the brand’s presence in motorsports but also supports the development of future road car technology. As the luxury automaker prepares to launch new models under the Magma sub-brand, their involvement in endurance racing will enhance their reputation as a high-performance leader on both the track and the road.
