Lea's Supra, affectionately dubbed the "Red Rocket," isn’t your average sports car. After a series of extensive upgrades, this beast now delivers a jaw-dropping 1,000 horsepower to its rear wheels, allowing it to tear through the quarter-mile strip in record time. The transformation of this Toyota GR Supra is nothing short of extraordinary, thanks to the expert tuning by Kotte Performance.
Engineered for Extreme Performance
At the heart of this powerhouse is a heavily modified 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. The engine has been meticulously upgraded to withstand and deliver immense power. Kotte Performance, based in Langenberg, played a crucial role in these enhancements, crafting a 6-port engine with IRP pistons and forged connecting rods. High-strength stud bolts from Pro Series were added to ensure durability.
The engine's breathing capabilities were significantly improved with a Kelford camshaft and valve spring setup, while the addition of a B58G35 turbo kit featuring a Garrett G35-1050 turbocharger pushed performance to new heights. To optimize the turbocharger’s output, a Wagner Tuning Evo 1 intake manifold, complete with an integrated intercooler and a manifold injection system, was installed. Additionally, a Snow Performance water-methanol injection system was fitted to ensure maximum combustion efficiency.
Fuel and Transmission Upgrades for Maximum Power
To support the power demands of the Supra, a robust fuel delivery system was necessary. A combination of a large fuel pump, a Dorch high-pressure pump, and BMW S58 injector nozzles from the latest M3/M4 models ensure a steady supply of E85 fuel. Kotte Performance also tailored the car’s software to optimize performance with E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.
Handling such colossal power required a transmission upgrade as well. The factory 8-speed automatic transmission was reinforced with a Stage 2 upgrade, developed by Kotte Performance, which included both hardware and software modifications. A new torque converter was also installed, allowing for a higher idling speed, ensuring the transmission could manage the Supra’s 1,190 Nm of torque without a hitch.
Racing-Ready Wheels, Tires, and Suspension
When it comes to transferring all that power to the pavement, the Supra is equipped with high-performance Hoosier drag slicks mounted on 10-inch-wide WELD Belmont Beadlock rims. For street driving, it retains its OEM 19" rims with 255/35 tires on the front axle. For the track, ultra-slim 28/45R18 tires on 18" WELD Belmont Beadlock rims can be fitted to the front axle for optimal grip on drag strips. The KW Variant 3 coilover suspension allows for precise adjustments, making it easy to tailor the car's setup for drag racing.
Safety First in the Cockpit
Inside, the Supra’s cockpit has been transformed into a racing fortress. A safety cell, expertly welded by Rennklasse, includes numerous struts, reinforcing elements, and side impact protectors. Lea secures herself in a RECARO Pole Position bucket seat with a six-point motorsport harness. In case of emergency, a fire extinguishing system has been installed, underscoring the commitment to safety in this high-powered machine.
