Subaru Unleashes Fastest WRX Ever with 670hp and Ex-F1 Driver

Subaru Motorsports USA is bringing along ‘the quickest and fastest ever WRX’ with 670hp, driven by an ex-F1 driver.

Project Midnight follows in the footsteps of the Airslayer car from Gymkhana 2020, but it takes things to a new level with a focus on outright speed. For those aiming to set impressive times on a hill climb in West Sussex, this is the car to watch. The vehicle is drastically lighter than its predecessor, thanks to an all-carbon fiber body and lighter chassis. It’s said to be 450kg lighter than a standard WRX and ‘well under’ 1,200kg at the curb.

True to WRX tradition, it retains a turbocharged flat-four engine. This unit is the ‘top-performing’ evolution that Subaru Motorsports USA has been refining for years. It delivers 680lb-ft of torque and revs up to 9,500rpm. Add in the promised flames from its exhaust, its ultra-wide aerodynamic shell, Advan slicks, and the presence of Scott Speed behind the wheel, and it’s safe to say this will be one of the standout spectacles this weekend.

“Subaru Motorsports USA and the team at Vermont SportsCar have delivered an absolute beast. The wider tires, track, and geometry give it a very unique feel and incredible grip. The ultimate driving machine; half RX, half sports car – a true joy to drive,” said Speed. The team has longer-term plans for Project Midnight, but FoS will mark its public debut. Subaru has promised it will ‘shock the crowd in a completely different way as it fires up the hill,’ making it a worthy stablemate to the Family Huckster. We can’t wait.
