Since selling his namesake brand, Janarelly Automotive, he’s been busy, even playing a role in the development of the Caterham Project V. But now, he’s back with something entirely new introducing ‘Art Machines by Anthony Janarelly’.
The first creation under this new venture is the Ælla-60, a limited-run sports car with just 60 units planned. This machine is all about delivering an exhilarating driving experience, inspired by the golden age of grand tourers. Think classic styling, raw performance, and pure driver engagement all wrapped up in an achingly beautiful package.
At first glance, the Ælla-60 carries echoes of the Design-1, with its curvy, compact form and a distinct lack of unnecessary aerodynamic clutter. But while it may share some visual DNA, the soul of this car is entirely different. Gone is the Nissan-sourced V6; in its place sits a naturally aspirated 480hp V8, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
With a dry weight of just 1,130kg, this lightweight missile is expected to rocket from 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds. That’s supercar-level pace in a package designed for unfiltered driving pleasure rather than outright lap times.
Beyond Restomods: The Ælla-60’s Secret Formula
Janarelly isn’t calling this just another restomod it’s what he describes as a ‘beyond restomod’. The difference? Rather than simply enhancing an existing classic, the Ælla-60 is a complete reimagination. Underneath the gorgeous, bespoke bodywork lies the foundation of an existing sports car from the 1990s.
While the exact donor car remains undisclosed, the clues are hard to ignore. A 3.6-litre mid-mounted V8, an aluminium chassis, and a manual gearbox? Sounds a lot like the Ferrari 360 Modena. If that’s the case, Janarelly has taken an already beloved modern classic and elevated it into something even more special. Extracting an extra 80hp from Ferrari’s high-revving V8 won’t be easy, but if done right, this could be one of the most exciting analog driver’s cars on the planet.
To bring this ambitious vision to life, Janarelly has teamed up with Podium Advanced Technologies, an Italian firm known for its work on high-end restomods. They’ve previously contributed to projects like the Porsche 928 Nardone, the Lancia Delta Futurista, and the Eccentrica Lamborghini Diablo. With their expertise, the Ælla-60 isn’t just a dream it’s a tangible project set for production.
Limited Production, Exclusive Ownership
The Ælla-60 is set to make its first public appearance at Retromobile next week, albeit in digital form. With a starting price of €865,000 (£723,500), it’s positioned as an ultra-exclusive collector’s piece. However, early buyers won’t just be getting a car; they’ll become ‘founding members’, actively participating in the development and engineering process.
Once five reservations are secured, full production will be greenlit, with the first deliveries expected next year. Given how rapidly high-end restomods are being snapped up, it wouldn’t be surprising to see all 60 units spoken for in record time.
A Bold New Chapter for Janarelly
With the Ælla-60, Anthony Janarelly is making a bold statement combining classic inspiration with modern performance in a way that few brands dare to attempt. If you’ve ever wanted a Ferrari 360 Modena turned into something even more visceral, stunning, and exclusive, this might just be your dream machine.
