When Tuthill Porsche unveils a new car, the automotive world takes notice. This year's Monterey Car Week was no exception, with the debut of their latest creation, the GT One.

Following in the footsteps of their remarkable 911K, Tuthill's new GT One is set to make waves, and it's easy to see why.

The GT One draws clear inspiration from the legendary 911 GT1 race cars that dominated the tracks in the 1990s, yet it seamlessly blends this heritage with modern engineering. The idea for this exceptional vehicle reportedly stemmed from a conversation between Tuthill’s founder, Richard Tuthill, and Elliot Ross, a filmmaker and avid car collector. Ross, it seems, was eager for a fresh take on the iconic sports car racer, and the GT One is Tuthill's answer to that call.

The 1990s saw some of the most exciting racing and road cars, with models like the Toyota GT-One, Lotus Elise, Lamborghini Diablo, and Panoz marking the era. Given the current trend of reviving iconic designs, it’s the perfect time for a resurgence of these legendary machines. Just as the McLaren F1 has been reimagined in the form of the GMA T.50, Tuthill’s GT One pays homage to the past while carving out its own unique identity.

While details on the car’s chassis remain under wraps, it’s confirmed that the GT One is designed as a road car, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and delivering a respectable 500 horsepower in its standard form. This isn’t a car that demands a private track day to enjoy—it’s a road car first and foremost, albeit one built to Tuthill’s exacting standards. Expect features like carbon fiber body panels, a carbon roof with integrated roll-over protection, and the kind of engineering precision that sets Tuthill apart.

Under the hood, the GT One is powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six engine, inspired by the high-revving 911K, and producing over 500 horsepower naturally aspirated. For those seeking even more power, a forced induction version will be available, pushing the output beyond 600 horsepower. The car on display at The Quail was equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), though a manual option will also be offered. Complementing this are double wishbone suspension, ceramic brakes with bespoke calipers, and an Inconel exhaust, all contributing to the car’s expected weight of just 1,200 kg.

The design, crafted by California-based Florian Flatau, is nothing short of spectacular. Flatau’s previous work includes the Singer ACS, the E-Legend EL1, the 2010 Audi Quattro Concept, and collaborations with Lucid. The GT One, with its unmistakable Porsche lineage, yet elevated to a new level of artistry, is a testament to his skill. In a week filled with extravagant supercars, the GT One’s design stands out, with its perfectly proportioned wheels and captivating presence.

Tuthill Porsche plans to build just 22 examples of the GT One, with one likely destined for Elliot Ross, leaving very few for the rest of the world. Given the enduring appeal of 911-inspired, flat-six-powered cars, especially in Southern California, it wouldn’t be surprising if all 22 units are spoken for in short order. While the price remains undisclosed, the extensive use of carbon fiber and the 3,500 hours of craftsmanship that go into each car suggest a substantial seven-figure sum.

Reflecting on the GT One, Richard Tuthill shared, “At the heart of this piece of artwork is, of course, the constant pursuit of mechanical excellence. We have taken inspiration from all that we have done in the past and have been inspired by what others have done before us and continue to do. As usual, I sincerely hope those who wish to own one of these will also wish to drive them as often as they can and create memories that will last a lifetime. The FIA GT1 class enabled manufacturers to create stunning race cars. We have taken the best bits but focused on producing a wonderful road car... I hope you can all enjoy it with us!”

With the GT One, Tuthill Porsche continues its legacy of blending heritage with innovation, creating a car that is not just a tribute to the past but a new icon in its own right.
