For those unfamiliar with the GLH nameplate, it stands for "Go Like Hell." This refers to the legendary Dodge Omni GLH, a turbocharged hot hatch developed in collaboration with Carroll Shelby during the 1980s. The revival of the GLH badge signals Dodge’s commitment to infusing the Hornet with a performance-oriented edge, much like its predecessor.
What to Expect from the Hornet GLH
While Dodge has been tight-lipped about exact specifications, previous GLH concept models hinted at performance-enhancing modifications. These included lowered suspension, aggressive styling tweaks, and "stage kits" designed to boost horsepower. The concept versions were based on both the Hornet GT and the plug-in hybrid Hornet R/T.
Currently, the Hornet GT houses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine producing 268 horsepower, while the Hornet R/T plug-in hybrid delivers a combined output of 288 horsepower. If Dodge sticks to its playbook, the GLH variant could see notable power gains, a sportier stance, and sharper handling characteristics.
In addition to confirming the GLH’s production, McAlear hinted at another major update pricing. Dodge plans to lower the Hornet's base price to $29,995, a significant reduction from its current starting price of $33,180 (including destination fees). The price cut is expected to make the Hornet more competitive in the performance SUV segment, drawing in more buyers.
McAlear also suggested that Dodge may adjust pricing across its lineup by shifting certain features from standard trims to optional packages. This move could give customers more flexibility in tailoring their vehicles while making entry-level models more accessible.
With the Hornet GLH confirmed for production and pricing adjustments on the horizon, Dodge is making bold moves in the compact performance SUV market. Whether it’s the heritage-inspired GLH trim or the more affordable entry-level Hornet, there’s a lot for Dodge fans to look forward to. As we get closer to its launch, expect more details on the GLH’s specs, performance upgrades, and availability.
